Suzuki Reliability

Japanese car manufacturers have pretty much cornered the market when it comes to build quality and reliability, with established brands like Honda and Toyota tending to dominate reliability surveys year after year.

But what about Suzuki, a huge Japanese motoring brand that is perhaps better known for its motorcycles than its cars. Does Suzuki keep up with its ultra-dependable Japanese competitors in the reliability stakes? In a word, yes. Suzuki performs routinely well in reliability surveys and actually topped the table in What Car’s 2018 survey achieving an impressive 97.7% score, meaning incredibly few faults were reported by surveyed Suzuki owners.

Our own study, which analysed 47,000 warranty policies over a two and half year period, placed Suzuki in 4th out of 33 manufacturers, a very creditable performance.

How reliable are Suzuki’s top models?

Alto

In many ways the Alto is the archetypal Suzuki. A humble city car with little in the way of bells and whistles and less than sporty performance, it’s nonetheless extremely popular thanks to its modest running costs and dependably build quality. Reliability surveys invariably confirm this impression – according to the Reliability Index the Alto is currently the 10th most reliable car on the market with an especially low average repair cost of £95.16.

Jimny

Another solid, unpretentious Suzuki, the Jimny 4x4 is a bit of an unknown quality because it doesn’t sell in sufficient quantities in the UK to feature in all the reliability surveys. It does pretty well whenever it gets a look in however and currently ranks 32 in the Reliability Index, a very solid standing considering how huge the field is.

The benefits of a Suzuki warranty from MotorEasy

Suzuki fares well in most reliability surveys, but that doesn’t mean they’re entirely faultless. While Suzuki repairs are generally pretty well priced – a significant contributing factor in the brand’s impressive survey performances – they’re less impressive when you look at breakdown frequency. It makes sense to get a warranty that minimises the time and effort involved in dealing with repairs as well as dealing with the cost.
