Audi Reliability

Audi’s brand is built on the promise of quality German engineering or, as the famous tagline puts it, ‘Vorsprung Durch Technic’. But while Audi engineering is undoubtedly impressive it isn’t necessarily all that reliable.

In fact, Audi often scores quite poorly in warranty data analysis and customer satisfaction feedback. Our own recent reliability survey, which analysed 47,000 policies over a period of two and half years, scored Audi 3.6 out of 5, which placed it 29th out of 33 car manufacturers. It did marginally better (22nd) in our most likely to breakdown list.

While Audi’s range offers plenty of quality, question marks over reliability mean that it’s a good idea to ensure you have a good warranty in place.

How reliable are Audi’s top models?

Audi A3

The Audi A3’s reliability seems to vary across the range, with petrol models faring less well in surveys. Recent diesel models do far better however, defying Audi’s poor overall results. The fact that it shares many of its components with VW, Seat and Skoda models is also good news, ensuring repairs should be relatively inexpensive.

Audi A8

The A8 is an undeniably impressive luxury saloon but warranty data suggests it’s far from being the most reliable car on the market. Due to its specialised aluminium construction replacement parts can be expensive. Electronic faults are also widely reported. All things considered, A8 owners are wise to ensure they’re properly protected against the cost of repairs.
