Citroen Reliability

In recent years Citroen has fared pretty well in reliability surveys, with a few of its models standing out as particularly trusty. Our recent study, which analysed 47,000 warranty policies over a two and half year period, placed the French manufacturer 12th out of 33 motoring brands, a solid if not spectacular performance. It did less well in our frequency of failure table, coming in in 23rd. Overall it looks like Citroens breakdown fairly frequently but are relatively cheap to repair when they do.

Certain models, like the C1, rate very highly in the Reliability Index – drawn from more than 50,000 warranties – suggesting they are well-built, dependable vehicles.

How reliable are Citroen’s top models?

C1

Citroen’s small, low-cost city car is currently rated in the Reliability Index top 10 with an Index score of 14.00, which places it among the most reliable cars on the market. Average repair costs were pretty low too at £256.08. On the other hand the widely cited JD Power customer survey placed the C1 100th out of 109 cars in 2014.

C3

As with the C1, determining how reliable the C3 is really depends which data you look. The quirky hatchback does well in the Reliability Index rankings, garnering a just above average Index score of 60.00, which places it 70th in the top 100 most reliable cars. Car Buyer’s 2018 Driver Power survey was less positive however, ranking the C3 74th in a field of 75 popular models.
